New Jersey Announces NFL Official Betting Partner

NFL fans should be excited that their favorite team is partnering with an official betting partner. The NFL has a long-standing relationship with Genius Sports, which is overseen by the league. Those who sign official betting deals with the league must agree not to market their partnership outside of their immediate area. Genius Sports also keeps tabs on the relationship between the NFL and the sportsbooks. However, local sportsbooks may continue the relationship with the NFL, albeit in a restricted area.

The NFL concluded that it would pass legislation that includes substantive licensing requirements, clear markets, and consumer protections. This legislation would also prohibit the betting of insiders and place the onus on sportsbook operators to keep this from happening. The NFL needed the backing of the 32 team owners, divided into four groups, to make its proposal a reality. The first step was to pass legislation that would require sportsbooks to use league-provided data. The bill was passed by the legislature in Tennessee, which was the first to do so.

The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Support has created a toll-free hotline to help individuals and families affected by gambling. The New York State Council on Problem Gaming, American Addiction Centers, and the New York State HOPEline are all available resources for problem gamblers. The legislation also allows users to self-exclude from gambling and to place a daily or weekly limit on how much they bet. Lastly, betting sites in New York also provide self-exclusion options, including limits on the amount of time spent on the site.
